Requirements for a Waseca County Marriage License

State rules apply across Minnesota. Both applicants must be at least 18. Anyone who is 16 or 17 must have written consent from a parent or guardian before a license can be issued, as required by Minn. Stat. § 517.04. There is no residency requirement, so couples from outside Minnesota can apply here. No blood test is required.

The license is valid for six months from the date of issue. After the ceremony, the officiant must return the signed license to the Waseca County Recorder. Minn. Stat. § 517.08 sets this requirement. If you plan to use the marriage record for legal purposes later, the returned license is what creates the official record.

Under Minn. Stat. § 517.13, the ceremony must be performed by a judge, a licensed or ordained minister, or a civil celebrant who is authorized under state law. Waseca County residents who want a civil ceremony can ask the Recorder's office about local options.

Fees

The standard license fee is $115 to $125. Couples who complete 12 hours of approved premarital education and bring proof of it when they apply can qualify for a reduced fee of $40 to $50. Call the Recorder at 507-835-0670 to confirm the exact amount and to ask which payment types are accepted before your visit.
